Nigeria Receives $3.4bn Emergency Loan from IMF
The International Monetary Fund has disbursed a $3.4bn emergency financial assistance to Nigeria.
The Federal Government said it would use the funds, which was approved under the Rapid Financing Instrument by the Executive Board of the IMF on April 28, to address challenges arising from the economic impact of the COVID -19 in the country.
IMF Managing Director, Kristalina Georgieva, reportedly told CNBC Africa on Tuesday that the $3.4bn had been credited to the account of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
The Federal Government had assured that it would publicise all disbursements from the funds, and there are plans to conduct an independent audit of all emergency expenditure at the end of the pandemic.
The government also agreed to allow the IMF to conduct a due diligence exercise on the CBN, in line with the Fund’s safeguards assessment program.
Georgieva reportedly explained that Nigeria has met and exceeded the safeguards for the disbursement of the funds.
“We have already disbursed. In emergency assistance, the board approves, we disburse within days to the country, and it goes to their central bank in dollars before it gets converted into naira in the case of Nigeria.
“The conditions are quite favourable.
“Repayment period is five years, up to two and half years is a grace period, and the interest on the loan is one per cent,” she said.
Georgieva, in the same vein, said IMF would continue to support Nigeria and other member countries.
“We have put in place policy tracking action, and we are seeing progress each country is making.
“The IMF will continue to support countries and shield them from catastrophic implications of the COVID-19 crisis,” she said.

CP Akin Fakorede’s removal: Why IG should remove CSP Oyewale Taiwo.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
AGUIKE Applauds IG, Tunde Disu, and Calls for Investigation and Dismissal of CSP Taiwo Oyewale Over Alleged Compromise of Police Integrity
Abuja, Nigeria — In response to recent concerns surrounding the integrity of the Nigerian Police Force, Aguike, President of US Global Media, LLC, and a global Nigerian-American Music Icon, has publicly called on the Inspector General of Police to initiate a thorough investigation into the conduct of CSP Taiwo Oyewale, Head of the IGP Special Investigation Unit. Mr. Aguike emphasizes the importance of accountability and integrity within law enforcement agencies, especially amid ongoing allegations of misconduct.
While acknowledging the recent removal of Commissioner Akin Fakorede from the IG’s Monitoring Unit as a step forward, Aguike expressed deep concern over the apparent compromise of leadership within the Force. Specifically, the statement accuses CSP Taiwo Oyewale of involvement in activities that undermine police integrity, including allegedly facilitating the approval of false petitions, colluding with individual accused of serious crimes such as human trafficking and money laundering.
The statement references extensive correspondence with the former Inspector General of Police, warning of CSP Oyewale’s alleged connections to criminal elements. It further alleges that since assuming her current role, Oyewale has maintained close associations with the suspect, a Deputy Inspector General of Police reefred to as a “criminal.”
Among the specific allegations is Oyewale’s connection to the case of Pretty Okafor, a suspect accused of conspiracy and financial misappropriation. It is alleged that Oyewale transferred investigations related to Okafor to Akin Fakorede and participated in activities that question the impartiality of police investigations, including appearing as a witness in a defamation case against the suspect.
Aguike stated, “The integrity of our police institutions must be upheld at all times. Any officer found to have compromised their position through misconduct or criminal involvement must be held accountable without delay.”
The statement concludes with a call for an immediate and transparent investigation into CSP Taiwo Oyewale’s conduct. Aguike emphasized that any corroborated misconduct should result in her dismissal, reinforcing the need to restore public confidence in Nigeria’s law enforcement.
US Global Media, LLC remains committed to promoting transparency and accountability within Nigerian institutions. The organization urges relevant authorities to prioritize and expedite investigations into these serious allegations.

Tunji Disu Takes Over As IGP-8 DIGs, AIGs Set To Retire -AGUIKE in ABUJA
Special adviser to the president on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga, had announced in a statement on Tuesday that President Bola Tinubu had accepted the resignation of inspector-general of police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun, following the submission of his letter citing pressing family issues.
He said Tinubu received Egbetokun’s resignation earlier Tuesday and expressed his profound appreciation for Egbetokun’s decades of distinguished service to the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the nation.
He also announced that President Tinubu has approved the appointment of AIG Disu to serve as acting inspector-general of police with immediate effect.
Speaking on this development, AIG Ademola Jonathan (rtd) said as it was in the custom of the Force that all the deputy inspectors-general of police are likely to retire and go with the IGP.
He explained that in instant cases, even the senior AIGs would have to go.
Currently, the DIGs that may be affected include: DIG Frank Mba (Training & Development) appointed in 2023; DIG Sadiq Idris Abubakar (FCID) appointed in 2025; DIG Bzigu Yakubu Kwazi (Operations) appointed in 2025; DIG Adebola Ayinde Hamzat (Logistics) appointed in 2025; DIG Idegwu Basil Okuoma (Research) appointed in 2025; DIG Mohammed Adamu Dankwara (Finance) appointed in 2025; DIG Funsho Adegboye, appointed in Jan 2026, and DIG Fayoade Adegoke, appointed in February, 2026.
Also, another retired commissioner of police, Chidi Ndu, while speaking on those likely to retire, said all AIGs ahead of the new IGP will be expected to go with the DIGs for easy operations.
He recalled that during the time of former IGP Ibrahim Kpotun Idris, he insisted that all AIGs and DIGs ahead of him retired with the IGP Solomon Arase of blessed memory.
Ndu noted that the issue of retirement is left for the new IGP to decide for the interest of his smooth operations.
Born on April 13, 1966, in Lagos State, acting IGP Disu was appointed AIG in March, 2025.
Disu, a highly experienced senior officer, has served in various commands such as commissioner of police in Rivers State and FCT Commands and will serve in an acting capacity pending his confirmation in accordance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Disu’s appointment is for four years in accordance with the new Police Act.
Recall that Egbetokun was due to retire on September 4, 2024, upon reaching the mandatory age of 60, but the Tinubu government explained that he was on a four years appointment.
This was after the National Assembly amended the police law, allowing him to serve his full four-year term as IGP unless removed by the president.
Disu holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Education from Lagos State University, and also has two Master’s degrees in Public Administration from Adekunle Ajasin University, Ondo State, and another in Criminology, Security, and Legal Psychology from Lagos State University.
He has attended numerous professional training courses in Nigeria and abroad, including programmes in small arms smuggling, internet fraud, strategic leadership, and forensic investigations
He joined the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police in 1992, and has since served in key leadership roles nationwide.
Disu was the former commander of the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT). He was picked to lead the IRT by former IGP Usman Alkali Baba on August 2, 2021, following the suspension of Abba Kyari.
He is also a former commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Lagos State.

Why Akin Fakorede must be fired-An open Letter to the Nigerian Inspector General of Police
Dear Mr Egbetokun, IGP of Nigeria
A concerning situation is currently unfolding in Lagos, Nigeria, involving several prominent Nigerian musicians. Commissioner Akin Fakorede is assisting an individual whom one of your Deputy Inspectors General identified as a criminal. I have communicated with you privately on this matter on numerous occasions. A group of esteemed Nigerian musicians finds themselves embroiled in a legal battle at the Magistrate Court in Yaba, where they face what many consider unfounded and questionable charges. Central to this controversy is Commissioner Akin Fakorede, who has reportedly extended support to Pretty Okafor, an individual who has been suspended by the National Working Committee of PMAN, Sunny Nneji, Zaaki Azzay, Ruggedman, and others, for over a year due to serious accusations.
Pretty Okafor stands accused of multiple grave offenses, including money laundering, human trafficking, and illicitly selling 1.2 acres of land owned collectively by Nigerian musicians. It is alleged that Okafor profited over 700 million Naira from this transaction, raising serious concerns about financial impropriety and abuse of trust within the Nigerian music community. Despite a subsisting court judgment that explicitly restrains Pretty Okafor from presenting himself as the President of the Performing Musicians Employers Association of Nigeria (PMAN), Commissioner Akin Fakorede has purportedly taken controversial steps that undermine the judiciary.
Reports indicate that Commissioner Fakorede authored a letter, which he claimed to be issued by the Inspector General of Police, instructing Pretty Okafor to disregard the existing court order. This act effectively challenges the authority of the judiciary and sets a dangerous precedent for the rule of law and institutional integrity within Nigeria’s policing and legal systems. The letter’s authenticity and the Commissioner’s motivations are now under intense scrutiny, raising urgent questions about accountability within the Nigerian Police Force.
This situation not only threatens the reputation of the Nigerian music industry but also highlights broader systemic issues within law enforcement. It calls into question the commitment of senior police officials to uphold justice and respect for legal frameworks. As the case progresses, a pressing question remains: when will the Inspector General of Police hold Commissioner Akin Fakorede accountable for actions that seemingly subvert lawful processes and compromise the integrity of the Nigerian Police Force? Commissioner Fakorede’s conduct appears emblematic of the challenges facing the police institution, reflecting a disturbing pattern of disregard for due process and institutional accountability.
Should you fail to address this matter promptly, I will have no choice but to make it public. Please treat this with the utmost urgency.
Sincerely,
Aguike
