Cobbler Rapes Lady, Shares Nude Video with Friends
An Olamide Babayemi, 25, has been arrested for raping a 22-year-old Microbiology graduate and sharing the victim’s nude video with his friends.
Babayemi, a cobbler was alleged to have invited the victim, whom he claimed was his girlfriend, to come and collect the phone she asked him to buy in Mowe, Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The suspect was reported to have soaked the victim’s clothes in the water when she got to the agreed location and used his phone to record her nudeness before sending the video to some of his friends.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed this on Sunday in a statement.
Oyeyemi said Babayemi was arrested by men of the command on January 4, 2020, for the alleged crime.
The PPRO said the suspect also attempted to kill the victim after raping and filming her in a nude posture to cover up his crime.
Oyeyemi said the suspect was arrested following a report by the victim at the Redemption Camp Police Station in Mowe.
The PPRO stated, “The victim came to the Redemption Camp Police Station and reported that she gave the sum of N18,000 to the cobbler, whom she had known for quite some time, to buy a mobile telephone for her.
“She explained further that the cobbler, who refused to either buy the phone or refund her money, suddenly called her on January 2 to come to the Greenland Estate in Mowe to collect the phone.
“On getting there, the suspect forcefully removed all her clothes and raped her.
“The victim stated further that after he had forcefully had carnal knowledge of her, the suspect soaked her clothes in water and used his phone to record her nudeness, which he started sending to some of his friends.
“When he realised that the victim might report him to the police, he attempted to snuff life out of her, but she was lucky when the suspect’s mother called him on the phone to come and meet her at the gate of the estate, which allowed her to escape.
“On the strength of the report, the DPO, Redemption Camp Police Station, CSP Chris Amanyi, mobilised detectives to go after the suspect, who had taken to his heels, and he was eventually apprehended on January 4, 2020, when his mother brought him to the station.
“On interrogation, the suspect, who claimed to be the victim’s boyfriend, confessed that he committed the crime, but blamed the girl for calling it quits with him after she graduated from the university.
“When asked for the reasons behind recording the nude video of the victim, he said he did so to prevent her from reporting him to the police.”
The PPRO added that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Kenneth Ebrimson, had ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution.

Hotel Attendant Kills Guest over N1,200
The Lagos State police have arrested an attendant at an inn in Whitesand, Ijora-Badia area of Lagos State, Emmanuel Ben, for the alleged murder of a customer identified only as White London.
The 25-year-old victim was stabbed with a knife during an argument with the inn attendant over N1, 200.
It was learnt that White London had gone to the inn around 11 am on February 8 with his lover to have fun and was charged N1,200 for a room.
He reportedly agreed and promised to settle the bill when he returned from the room with the lover.
Our correspondent gathered that about an hour after, White London emerged from the room but refused to pay for the service as agreed, leading to an argument between him and the attendant.
They allegedly slugged it out with each other during which 21-year-old Emmanuel knifed him in the stomach.
A resident of the area, who identified himself simply as George, said the incident caused a commotion in the neighbourhood, and a distress call was put across to the police from the Ijora Division.
He said White London bled to death at the spot before policemen from the Ijora Division arrived at the scene.
“Many people were woken up by the uproar from the scene. I didn’t come out because it was too late and I would not want to be caught up in the dispute. I peeped outside from my window, and I could hear, ‘oti ku’ (He is dead). Some minutes later, some policemen arrived in their van.
“It was the following morning I knew what led to the fight. I learnt the man (White London) came to the inn with his girlfriend, and when they were done, he refused to pay for the service. The attendant charged him N1, 200 but he was not willing to pay. He (Ben) stabbed him while they were fighting.”
But a resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said White London was haggling with Ben over the bill when the fight ensued.
“It was not as if the man did not want to pay for the service, but he wanted to have a cut from the N1, 200 the attendant demanded. The attendant declined, and that was when the argument started.
“Immediately the incident happened, the attendant wanted to flee, but he was held by some vigilance men who handed him over to the police. The deceased was not a resident there, but many people knew him as White London,” the resident recalled, adding that the hotel had been shut.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Bala Elkana, who confirmed the incident, stated that the corpse had been deposited at the Mainland General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
He said, “At attendant at a hotel in a shanty in White Sand, Ijora-Badia, stabbed a guest popularly known as White London to death with a knife. The misunderstanding was caused by non-payment of N1, 200 lodging fee by the deceased whose real name is still unknown.
“The police have arrested the suspect and the knife reportedly used for the crime was recovered at the scene. An investigation is ongoing.”

Jaguar Land Rover Develops ‘moving’ Seat that Mimick Walking
Premium automaker, Jaguar-Land Rover, developed a car seat that could trick drivers/passengers into thinking that they are walking while sitting during a journey.
Jaguar Land Rover on Thursday revealed the latest creation from its research and development labs.
A report by caradvice.com says while this seems somehow counterintuitive on the surface, it holds some benefits.
The JLR calls the innovative design a ‘morphable’ seat where actuators in the foam mimic the rhythm of walking.
“Each seat can be suited for different drivers, much like memory seats currently found in modern cars,” the report states.
The JLR Chief Medical Officer, Dr Steve Iley, is quoted as saying that the reason the automaker is doing this is that 1.4 billion people or more than a quarter of the world’s population are spending more time in seats than on the pavement, and this can shorten the muscles in the legs, hips and gluteals, leading to back pain.
He says, “We are using our engineering expertise to develop the seat of the future using innovative technologies not seen before in the automotive industry to help tackle an issue that affects people across the globe.”
By simulating the rhythm of walking, a movement known as pelvic oscillation, the technology can help mitigate against the health risks of sitting down for too long on extended journeys, says a report by carandbike of Auto NDTV
Another online auto journal, cnet.com, gives the detailed features of the exclusive seat, as explained by the manufacturer.
It says, “The ‘morphable seat’ features a never-ending loop of micro-adjustments from actuators in the seat foam. These adjustments make your brain believe that you’re walking…Tricking the brain with some fake pelvic oscillation could keep your muscles stimulated.
“The automaker imagines the system could be tailored to each passenger for total comfort while the seat makes its adjustments over a long journey.”
This is not the first health beneficial car the JLR has introduced. Previous projects are listed as those helping to reduce the effects of motion sickness by changing the car’s dynamics and cabin settings and using ultraviolet light technology to help prevent the spread of colds and flu.
“It’s part of JLR’s ‘Destination Zero’, which has a goal of making people safer and healthier while looking after the environment,” says the report.
