PRESS RELEASE: NIGERIAN ARMY TROOPS CAPTURE 10 SENIOR BOKO HARAM COMMANDERS
- AND ARREST KEY LOGISTICS SUPPLIERS
As Nigerian Army continues to heighten the tempo of her operational activities against bandits, insurgents and other criminal elements nationwide, the gallant troops of Operation LAFIYA DOLE have stepped up artillery bombardment of identified Boko Haram criminals’ enclaves and hideouts. Troops have equally stepped up the effective blockade of their logistics supply routes and the arrest of some of their key logistics suppliers with devastating outcomes on the criminal insurgent group. For instance, during a successful sting operation conducted on 9 October 2019 by troops of the 26Task Force Brigade, 10 suspected key Boko Haram members were reportedly captured while attempting to sneak into some communities around Bitta in Gwoza LGA of Borno State in a bid to escape the troops’ sustained onslaught against them. Preliminary investigation reveals that the arrested criminals are ranked higher than the Amir in the criminals’ hierarchy. Many of them have been identified to have operated combat vehicles during the infamous Boko Haram attack on Gwoza in 2014.
The arrested suspects include ShettimaMustapha Umar, Abba Buji, Alhaji Bukar Madu-(KAHID – a Boko Haram Terrorists’ equivalent of a Brigadier General), Ali Hassan (Boko Haram Terrorist Imam), Alkali Laminu, Bukur Mustapha, Buba Umaru (Alias Black Uhuru) also a KAHID, Madu Nosobe, Mustapha
Similarly, in 1 Division Area of Responsibility, troops of 1 Division Garrison Tactical Headquarters responded to a reported cattle rustling incident. Acting on reliable information from the locals, the troops intercepted the suspected criminals along with the rustled animals while attempting to cross Polewire Labi, a community in Birnin Gwari LGA of Kaduna State. On sighting the approaching troops however, the criminal bandits abandoned the 23 rustled cows and fled into the forest. Consequently, the animals were recovered by the troops while efforts are on to identify their owners for eventual release to them. Furthermore, in a joint operation conducted by the troops of 3 Brigade in conjunction with the personnel of the Nigeria Police Birniwa Command in Jigawa State, 5 herdsmen complicit in the gruesome murder of one Mallam Haliru Yahaya in his farm were arrested. The arrested suspects are currently in the custody of the Nigeria Police Birniwa Command while troops maintain vigilance in the area to forestall any escalation.
In another development, troops of 4 Brigade operating under the aegis of operation MESA smashed a notorious armed robbery gang that have been terrorizing commuters along a major road at Owa Community in Uhunmwaede LGA of Edo State. One of the suspects, Mr Evans Obidili Ubaka was promptly arrested while other gang members fled. However, concerted efforts are on to track and arrest the fleeing criminals. Also, on same day, the troops conducted a joint operation with personnel of the Nigeria Police Oredo Command. Acting on credible information, the operation led to the arrest of a renowned kidnappers’ informant popularly known as “Mr Jaguar”. Preliminary investigation reveals that the suspect master minded the recent infamous kidnap of a man, his pregnant wife and child in the area.
In a similar vein, troops of 32 Artillery Brigade’s Anti-Kidnapping Team conducted a security investigation mission to Ajowa- Akoko village in Akoko North West LGA of Ondo State. The troops met with one Alhaji Zakari Yau, a kidnap victim who escaped from his abductors after spending 2 days in captivity. Information gathered during the mission led to the arrest of one of the suspects named Wasiu Mohammed and 3 other members of the gang. During preliminary investigations, the suspects confessed to the kidnapping of the victim and the demand for a ransom of Five Million Naira (#5,000.000.00) only. Cordon and Search of the kidnappers’ hideout resulted in the recovery of 4 machetes, one TECNO mobile phone, 2 First Bank ATM cards, one voters card and one ID card belonging to one Mr Moses Michael Jackson. Also recovered was the GSM phone used by the prime suspect Wasiu Mohammed. In a related operation conducted by same troops in the same area, another member of a notorious 5 man kidnap gang, 21 year old Jimoh Umar was also arrested and handed over to the DSS Ondo State Command.
Additionally, in 9 Brigade Area of Responsibility, timely intervention by troops averted a heinous attack on personnel and equipment of the Nigeria Customs Service Idiroko Command by some miscreants opposed to the border closure directed by the Federal Government of Nigeria. In the same vein, troops arrested a murder suspect, one Luck Pam, at Rawairu Village in Barkin Ladi LGA of Plateau State. The suspect confessed to the murder of a herdsman on 5 October 2019.
In the Niger Delta region, troops continue to thwart the activities of economic saboteurs and their collaborators by continually destroying all identified illegal refining sites, arresting their operators and illegal value chain benefactors. In the same vein, troops of 343 Artillery Regiment arrested a truck with Registration Number EPE 24 XG loaded with substance suspected to be stolen crude oil along Elele Alimini Road with 3 occupants. Suspects and exhibits will be handed over to the EFCC Rivers State Command at the end of preliminary investigation. Similar operations conducted by troops across the region recently resulted in the destruction of 11 Illegal refineries, 13 storage tanks, 2 boats loaded with stolen crude oil, 3,200 litres of illegally refined petroleum products, 3 metal tanks containing illegally refined petroleum products, one speed boat mounted with 75 HP engine, 4 Cotonou boats, 3 welding machines, 3 generating sets, one gas cylinder, 2 iron plates, 8 iron pipes, 5 pumping machines and 7 boilers under construction.
In the light of the above, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Yusuf Buratai wishes to thank all patriotic citizens for availing the Nigerian Army with useful information leading to the successes so far recorded. He also congratulates the troops for the unprecedented successes in the arrest of the 10 Boko Haram criminals while admonishing them to keep the pressure on the insurgents and their collaborators.

2 Lecturers Escape Kidnappers Den.
Two lecturers abducted six days ago by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers in Kaduna, have reportedly escaped from their captors.
The lecturers, who are biological brothers and indigenes of Kebbi State, were abducted six days ago at Mahuta in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Adamu was the first to be abducted by the gunmen, while Umar, who later went to deliver N2 million and a brand new motorcycle as ransom for the release of his brother, was abducted after the bandits collected the ransom.
The Spokesperson of Kebbi Indegenes Resident in Kaduna and Garkuwan Wakilin Sarikin Zurun Kaduna, Garba Muhammad confirmed this development on Sunday, 17 Nov., 2019. He further said that the two siblings have escaped from their kidnappers and arrived the palace of Wakilin Sarkin Zurun Kaduna and were received by the Wakili.
Garba, also disclosed that after paying additional N3 million as ransom, the kidnappers made a fresh demand of N10 million before they would release the lecturers.
According to him, the fresh N10 million demand could not be met. He added that it was with the assistance of security agents that the two lecturers escaped.
Confirming their escape yesterday in a statement, Public Relations Officer, Kaduna State Police Command, Yakubu Sabo, assured the families and members of the public that the perpetrators of the crime would be apprehended and brought to justice.
“Today 17/11/2019, at about 11.51 a. m., the Command received information from the family of the two kidnapped lecturers: Adamu Chonoko from Ahmadu Bello University and Umar Chonoko from Kaduna Polytechnic that, the duo have managed to escape from the den of their kidnappers.
Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Ali Aji Janga, while rejoicing with the families and friends of the victims, assures the families and members of the public that, the perpetrators of this crime will be apprehended and be brought to face justice.”

Man Stabs Sex Workers To Death in Lagos
The Lagos State Police Command is currently investigating a man for allegedly killing a sex worker in a hotel in Surulere.
Babatunde Damilare who is said to be a regular at Edo Hotel, Atan Street at Empire area of Surulere Lagos, had attacked one of the sex workers, Elochukwu with a knife following an argument over the price of a round of sex.
However, during the argument, Babatunde stabbed Elochukwu severally on the neck which led to her death.
A witness, Wasiu explained that Babatunde, who is a regular at the hotel, stabbed the sex worker with a kitchen knife, He further explained that he also attacked two other men who tried to stop him from fleeing the scene.
The Police Command Spokesman, DSP Bala Elkana said while confirming the incident that the suspect has been arrested by the Homicide detectives led by the Divisional Police Office Surulere Police Station, CSP Adebayo Adeoya and that the corpse of the deceased has been deposited at Mainland Hospital morgue in Yaba for autopsy.
The investigation is ongoing and the suspect will be charged to court.

Update: Cult Clash Claims Five in Kogi Varsity- police confirms.
Police in Kogi State on Wednesday, 06 Nov., 2019 confirmed that five (5) students were killed in the State’s University.
In a statement, the Command Public Relations Officer, DSP WIlliam Aya in Lokoja made it clear that five (5) students lost their lives and not thirteen (13) students as earlier reported.
He listed the casualties to include;
Justice Keke, a 300-level student of Physics Department who was killed in the campus after a theatre production on November 1st, He also said that a yet to be identified corpse was found in an uncompleted building behind the university on November 2nd.
DSP WIlliam Aya further stated that Abdrulraman Usman, a 200-level student of History Department was killed at his father’s lodge on November 3 and also on November 3, two corpses, identified as that of Oloruntoba Godwin, a 400 level student of Geo/Planning Department and Ajileye Richard, a 200 level Accounting student, were seen inside the bush behind Harbor Bay Hotel.

Rapist Escapes Police Grasp into Ebonyi Govt House
On Tuesday, a 19-year-old man, Ojukwu Chika, escaped the firm grasp of policemen in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.
The suspect, our correspondent gathered, first appeared in court on Tuesday, for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl.
It was further gathered that he escaped into the premises of the Government House in Abakaliki and the policemen searched for him to no avail until another security personnel on duty inside Government House spotted him and handcuffed him.
The security personnel, it was learnt, demanded to know his mission and where he was headed for before handing him over to the police.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Edet Effiong, said the accused committed the offence for which he was to be first arraigned on October 16, 2019, at Umoghara village in the Ezza South Local Government Area of the state.
He was re-arraigned on Wednesday before the Abakaliki Magistrates’ Court on one count of unlawful escape from police custody.
According to the police prosecutor, the offence is punishable under Section 135 (a) of the Criminal Code Law, Cap 33, Vol. 1, Laws of Ebonyi State of Nigeria, 2009.
The first charge read, “That you, Ojukwu Chika, on October 16, 2019, at Umoghara village in the Ezza South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, in the Abakaliki Magisterial District, did have an unlawful sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old girl, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 34 (2) of the Ebonyi Child Right Law and Related Matters, 2010.”
The new charge read, “That you Chika Ojukwu, on October 29, 2019, at the Abakaliki Court gate in the jurisdiction of this honourable court, did unlawfully escape from police custody, while being taken to court for arraignment, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 135 (a) of the Criminal Code Law, Cap 33, Vol. 1, Laws of Ebonyi State of Nigeria, 2009.”
The Chief Magistrate, Ruth Nwali, directed that the case file be transferred to the Director of Public Prosecutions in the state for necessary action.
She remanded the accused in the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Abakaliki, and adjourned the matter till December 30, 2019, for hearing.
